Originating in 1867 as Eagle Coffee and Spice, they served the pioneer communities in the San Francisco Bay area. The business later joined with Keystone Wholesale Grocery, which allowed for expansion into most of central California. During the 1940’s the decision was made to separate the coffee business from the other operations. At this time, a large warehouse and coffee roasting facility were built in the heart of downtown San Jose. Since then, their reputation has continued to grow. Still family-owned and operated, the third generation of the Wright family plays an active role in the business.
Keystone Coffee today is known as a truly premier roaster of the finest gourmet coffee available anywhere on the West Coast. Their specialty is customized, small batch roasting. Operating from a modern roasting and packaging facility, the plant includes a coffee tasting room and laboratory equipped with instrumentation that analyzes green, roasted and ground coffee. And when it comes to their blends, they exhibit intense flavors and rich aromas one would expect in a fresh roasted gourmet coffee.
