New Years 2016

It’s the New Year and you’ve already taken a great step: making your New Year’s resolution!  If your resolution is food-related, chances are that having a few innovative snack ideas on hand will help you to stay on track.  Here are some remixes of classic, better-for-you favorites for when you’re looking to keep your resolution fresh.

Breakfast

In the morning, we like to look for nutrients that will help to get us through our day, giving us energy and strength. Cereal is a staple for nutrients that help us to get our day started, so consider combining it with other fun ingredients that provide some additional nutrients,

Classic:  A bowl of cereal with skim milk

Remix:  Turn it into a crispy cereal mix by adding in some wheat cereals, granola, yogurt balls, raisins and maybe some fresh berries!

Lunch

Refueling at lunchtime can help to determine how the rest of your day goes. Be sure to stock up on fruits and veggies, as these sensible foods are chock full of vitamins.

Classic: House Salad (Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, light ranch dressing)

Remix: Transform it into a fresh Citrus Chicken Salad with Kale, grilled chicken, mandarin oranges, cucumbers and light vinaigrette!

Snacks

Snacking throughout the day is a trendy habit that many find useful for keeping appetites under control.  Switch up your snacks (and be sure to pack in those nutritious ingredients) so that you can always be excited to reach in your snack cabinet!

Classic: Traditional trail mix (dried fruit, nuts, and chocolate)

Remix: Spice it up and create your own movie mix with whole grain popcorn, pretzel sticks, dark chocolate candies, a sprinkle of sea salt.
