Craving A Sour Snack?
Although less common than cravings for sweet or salty snacks, many people experience cravings for sour foods, but what causes these cravings and what’s the best way to satisfy them?
A common source of sour cravings is a lack of stomach acid in the body. If we do not eat a sufficient amount of acidic foods, our stomach acid levels drop, making it difficult for the stomach to sterilize and break down the foods we eat. This can lead to many other problems including digestive discomfort, food allergies and illness. Sour cravings can also result from the liver attempting to cleanse itself and flush toxins from the body.
Vinegar is one of the quickest ways to improve your stomach acid levels. You can mix it with water and drink it, but we would recommend a vinaigrette over a salad of bitter greens like arugula, endive and radicchio. Grab a salad in your
Avenue C or café, or pick up a bag of salt and vinegar chips from a nearby vending machine for a quick vinegar fix. Wash it all down with a glass of filtered water with fresh-squeezed lemon for another stomach acid boost.
