Local Produce in support of American Family Farms
Canteen understands that local and regional food goes hand in hand with policies that ensure food is also fair. We are proud to support small and mid-sized American family farms, local communities, and artisans for our fresh food options.
Seafood from sustainable sources (SFW Criteria)
Canteen follows the guidelines set by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch Program and only consider seafood that is rated ‘Best Choice’ or ‘Good Alternative’ sustainable.
Milk free of artificial growth hormones
Yogurt free of artificial growth hormones
Canteen avoids the artificial growth hormone rBGH, a genetically engineered hormone to promote increased milk production, to ensure humane treatment of animals.
Certified Humane cage-free (shell) eggs
Traditional Factory Farming confines laying hens in battery cages too small to walk, spread their wings, or turn around. Certified cage-free shell eggs ensure the humane care of farm animals.
Chicken produced without the routine use of human antibiotics
Turkey produced without the routine use of human antibiotics
Canteen’s policy requires that chickens and turkeys are produced without the non-therapeutic use of human antibiotics. This means that medically important human antibiotics are not given to birds on a routine basis, decreasing the danger of antibiotic resistance.
Eco/Fair Trade Certified Coffee
With our partners at Tradecraft, buying Fair Trade certified coffees means they are confident everyone involved in delivering the final cup of coffee is well cared for. Fair Trade is a partnership based on dialogue, transparency and respect that seeks greater equity in international trade.
