Highlighting Hydration: The Importance of Refreshment Services in the Workplace

Staying hydrated is an important part of staying healthy all year long, but it’s especially critical during summer, which has inspired our focus this month on beverage and refreshment services. Research estimates that 50-75% of Americans are not getting enough fluids daily to avoid mild dehydration, which can cause dry mouth, headaches, fatigue, slowed metabolism, and dizziness or lightheadedness—and that’s bad news for any employee’s health, as well as attention span, productivity, and mood. According to the Society for Human Resource Management, now is the time for office buildings, manufacturing facilities, and outdoor work environments alike to recognize that making water and other beverages readily available to employees throughout the day is a necessity, not a workplace perk.

The Society for Human Resource Management’s annual Human Resources Conference, largely regarded as the world’s largest HR conference, took place at the end of June in Orange County, Calif. For over 15,000 attending HR professionals from hundreds of industries, the conference put a spotlight on beverage and refreshment services in the workplace. Both Canteen and the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) exhibited at the event, communicating the growing importance and benefits of providing refreshment services to employees. Canteen and NAMA outlined some key metrics around water filtration, coffee and refreshment services, beverage vending, and micro-market services in the workplace, which include increased worker productivity and long-term health insurance cost-savings for employers.

Canteen is proud to provide water filtration services to help employees stay hydrated, as well as a host of additional beverages to keep the workplace energized. Our beverage and refreshment offering includes coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice, healthy beverages, energy drinks, and soda. And, hydration doesn’t have to be all about fluids – fresh fruits like melon, apples, and oranges, offered in many of Canteen’s micro-market setups, can keep you hydrated as well!

Help your workplace run smoothly by helping your employees stay hydrated. Explore Canteen’s expansive offering of Refreshment Services, or contact us with any questions.
